An Odesa traffic police officer who made an insulting statement about the Ukrainian language has been dismissed from the post, the press service of the Department of State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry has reported.

The Interior Ministry authenticated a video recording released on the Internet in which the traffic police officer refused to speak Ukrainian with a driver. "During the inspection it became clear that these facts had been confirmed - the traffic police officer really demonstrated in public his disrespect for the state language, thus discrediting the rank of a police officer," the Interior Ministry said.

The superiors of the officer were reprimanded for the improper training of the senior police sergeant.

Some Internet publications earlier released a video recording in which a traffic police officer, who introduced himself as "Senior Sergeant Shvets," after a driver asked him a question in Ukrainian, said that he did not understand such a "foolish language." UKRINFORM
