The war between Ukraine and Romania for Zmeiny island was the very beginning. Romania can go further and have claims on the territories that were included into the state earlier. At least, president of Moldova Vladimir Voronin has warned Ukrainians about such scenario. He states Romania would like to return those Ukrainian lands that were included into Romania earlier.
Moldavian politician has the grounds for such suspicions. Last week he nearly was overthrown and his residence was smashed and set on fire. The flag of Romania was hanged on the steeple. Now president Voronin is warning the neighboring country, Ukraine about possibility to repeat this scenario in Ukraine.
“The progress of Romania’s aggressive wish to reconstitute the Great Romanian Empire and actions directed at the political destabilization of Moldova only sustain separatism in Transdniestria”, Vladimir Voronin claimed in his address to Ukrainians on TV.
“That is why those who inspire minor citizens of my country with fantastic scenarios about reconstitution of the Great Romania, first of all undermine stability in regions”, he said.
According to Vladimir Voronin, “acts of provocation under the guise of patriotism damage both national interests of Ukraine and territorial integrity urging the whole region on the threat of a dangerous conflict on the Balkan peninsula”.
As a reminder, in 1940 according to the agreement between Molotov and Ribbentrop, the Soviet Union included into Ukraine Bukovyna (modern Chernovtzy Region) that was the territory of Romania earlier. By UNIAN, Ukrainskaya Pravda reports
